A short, practical shortlist

Find a label maker for your routine

Pick how you want to make labels: type on a built-in keyboard, design on your phone, or use a computer. Then choose whether you need full colour, a rechargeable battery or automatic cutting.

Open the optional questions for specific tape families, connections and measurements. Tape width and printable text height are different, and similar-looking cassettes can use different systems. Check the exact cassette code for the model you choose.

A built-in keyboard is different from composing on a phone or computer; its key arrangement and display size still matter.

The PT-N25BT also has a physical keyboard; app use is an additional route, not a requirement for every label.

Help with this choice

Choose USB or serial only if that connector is essential. The discontinued PT-2500PC is serial-only; its original software targeted much older host operating systems, and present-day compatibility is not confirmed.

The Brother VC-500W uses CZ/ZINK color rolls; it is not compatible with standard TZe or Btag cassettes.

Help with this choice

This is different from accepting ordinary replaceable AA/AAA cells. The PT-18RKT uses a rechargeable Ni-MH pack and charging stand; check the pack’s condition on an older unit.

Help with this choice

Some machines auto-cut only in a particular app or print route. The VC-500W manual limits Auto Full Cut to its mobile app; computer printing uses the manual swipe-to-cut panel.
