PT-30 vs PT-35: overlap is not proof of interchangeability

Separate model names, overlapping records

Brother lists PT30 and PT35 as different discontinued U.S. models. Their current product tables overlap on several published fields, including QWERTY input, two-line output, label-length setting, thermal transfer and a TZe listing. Brother also names both in the compatible-model list for the exact TX5311 12 mm cartridge. Those shared facts help narrow a question, but they do not prove the machines are the same hardware, share every accessory or have identical manuals and packages.

Let the cartridge code settle the immediate choice

For each model, the exact Brother TX5311 page names one compatible route: a 12 mm black-on-blue laminated cassette. The product tables separately list TZe and several widths. Since the records do not reconcile the cassette-family difference, an owner should not use width alone to decide that a different cartridge will work. Check the exact model plate and cartridge code on a functioning unit, then follow instructions for that unit. Our PT-30 and PT-35 reviews keep the same caution visible without merging their identities.

Choose a different class of device for new work

Neither discontinued model is a strong choice when the routine needs a current warranty, a specific adapter, a measured footprint, phone or computer design, or an automatic cutter. Those requirements need their own exact documentation. Compare newer models such as the PT-D220 by the cassette and power route you will actually use; it is a different machine, not an assumed feature-for-feature successor. If a known PT-30 or PT-35 already works, identify its refill before planning a large batch. If you are choosing between used listings, buy only after confirming the model suffix, working display, feed and cut action, and a known compatible supply.

Choose around the labels you actually have to make.
