Three Brother P-touch routes to ribbon and connected labels

Brother’s three P-touch designs below can all enter the ribbon-and-label conversation, but they are not interchangeable. One pairs connected layouts with an older ribbon-capable engine, one keeps composition on a physical keyboard, and one is a connected tape printer without a documented ribbon mode. Start by deciding where you want to design, then check the cassette width and finishing steps for the material you actually plan to use.

PT-P715eBT: app or USB layouts, with a ribbon path

The PT-P715eBT Embellish Elite is the connected ribbon model. Brother documents P-touch Design&Print from a phone or tablet over Bluetooth and P-touch Editor from a computer by USB. It has no screen or keyboard, so design happens on the device before printing. Its TZe tape cassettes span 3.5–24 mm and a separate ribbon cassette comes in 12 or 24 mm; the exact U.S. package page listed a 24 mm, 4 m gold-on-white satin starter cassette. This combination is useful if you want the larger ribbon width plus app or computer artwork. It is not a Wi-Fi printer, and a computer cannot print to it over Bluetooth.

Finishing differs by material: ordinary label tape can use Auto Cut, but Brother recommends hand-cutting TZe-R satin ribbon. Its manual also warns that Auto Cut on labels feeds roughly 25 mm of leader before each new label. Most importantly, Brother’s U.S. product page marked this model discontinued and out of stock when checked on October 23, 2026. Treat it as an owner/reference assessment; do not assume a new unit or intact battery is available.

PT-D215e: ribbon without the app dependency

The PT-D215e is a keyboard-led alternative. You enter text on its built-in QWERTY controls and use the compact display, then print standard TZe labels through 12 mm or fit the separate 12 mm satin-ribbon cassette. That makes it the clearer choice if you value local typing and do not want to pair a phone or connect a computer. The trade is a narrower tape and ribbon range than the P715 and no phone-app, computer-USB or Wi-Fi workflow in the documented plan. Ribbon still needs scissor finishing, and the power setup uses six AAA cells or a compatible optional adapter rather than the P715’s internal rechargeable pack.

PT-P710BT: connected labels, but no ribbon assumption

The PT-P710BT is the practical comparison when you want app or computer design but your output is ordinary TZe adhesive tape. Its reviewed plan supports phone-app printing over Bluetooth and P-touch Editor by USB for tape through 24 mm, with a rechargeable Li-ion battery. It does not have a physical keyboard, and it is not a Wi-Fi printer. Unlike the PT-P715eBT and PT-D215e, it has no documented satin-ribbon cassette plan. Do not choose it on the assumption that all TZe printers can print TZe-R ribbon; cassette compatibility belongs to the exact model’s evidence.

Which constraint should decide?

  • Need a local keyboard? Start with the PT-D215e assessment. The two connected models do not gain a keyboard merely because they are small.
  • Need a phone or computer design route and decorative ribbon wider than 12 mm? The P715’s 24 mm ribbon option is the unique distinction here, but confirm old-stock condition and app compatibility before considering a discontinued machine.
  • Need connected standard tape and no ribbon? Compare the PT-P710BT with other connected tape models. It avoids paying attention to a ribbon workflow you will not use.
  • Need Wi-Fi, Wireless Direct or automatic ribbon cutting? None of these should be selected on that premise. Bluetooth is not Wi-Fi, and the P715 and PT-D215e ribbon instructions call for hand cutting.

For all three, check the exact model code and cassette before buying supplies. TZe is a family, not a promise that every cassette or ribbon format works in every Brother printer. The P715’s starter pack, the PT-D215e’s ribbon bundle and any used listing may differ in included items. These distinctions come from the manufacturers’ exact product and manual records, not comparative print testing; verify the intended material on the package and test adhesive tape on the actual clean, dry surface.

Read the individual reviews for the PT-P715eBT, PT-D215e and PT-P710BT before narrowing your choice.
